Dear Ervin:

Attached are the results from the January 18, 2017, first quarterly monitoring event at the
Wilkes County Dan Johnson Landfill, Permit Number 97-02. During this event, Joyce
Engineering (JOYCE) monitored three gas probes for the presence of landfill gas. Methane was
detected in GP-2 at a level of 10.8% Vol. which exceeds the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL.)
Methane was not detected in GP-1 or GP-3.

Wilkes County completed installation of a gas interception trench between GP-2 and the
inactive waste cell. The methane remediation trench contains 3 passive vents, which were each
checked for methane concentration. The monitoring results of the gas trench vents are included
on the attached monitoring log. Continued monitoring will be required to determine what affect
the interception trench is having on methane migration in the area around GP-2. A copy of the
monitoring results will be placed in the records for this facility. If we can provide any additional
