Addendum to the Operations Plan: Solid Waste Transfer Station
Addendum 1:
L. Septage Receiving Station
The county operates a Septage Receiving Station on the grounds of the Transfer Station. This station is
designed to take septic waste from commercial septic waste businesses and to take septic waste from
campers. The station is operated by Sanitation Personnel. The station can receive 3000 gallons of waste at
one time. The camping station is attached to the main system with a drive by receptacle. The county
charges a fee of nine cents (.09) per gallon for the main station and charges $25.00 for local residents to
use the camping station.
M. Recycling
The county operates a recycling program.
White goods are received at the transfer station and kept in one general location on a concrete
pad. We collected 31 tons of White goods and scrap metals from July 2015 to December 2015.
Cardboard is received at the transfer station and is sold to Jackson Paper in Sylva, NC. We
average 25 ton per load.
Tires are received and placed inside a box trailer. Once the trailer is full then the tires are taken to
US Tire Recycling in Concord, NC. We average 10 ton per load.
Curbside recycling is collected on Wednesday’s at the station as Single Stream and is sold to
Curbside Management in Asheville, NC. We manage approximately 24,000 lbs. per month. We have
three recycling attendants to assist the public. No solid waste is taken on this day to the loading pad, the
center will only take recyclables.
Other recyclable material is taken as well which include but are not limited to: TV’s, Computers,
Florescent bulbs, Oil Filters, and Oil. These items are currently hauled to Ball Ground, Georgia.
