RE: Results of Landfill Gas Monitoring – February 2015
Nash County Municipal Solid Waste Landfill
Nashville, Nash County, North Carolina
Permit # 64-01
Dear Mr. Hill:
This letter presents the results of landfill gas monitoring conducted at the site referenced above
on February 20, 2015. Landfill gas was monitored using a calibrated GEM-2000+ landfill gas
monitor at the on-site gas monitoring probes, as well as within the on-site structures and within
the crawl space of a private residence located on an out parcel approximately 350 feet east of the
facility. A site map showing the locations of the landfill gas monitoring probes is attached. The
results of monitoring at each of the gas monitoring probes are summarized in the attached
Landfill Gas Monitoring Data Forms.
Landfill gas was not detected in any of the on-site structures or in the crawl space of the nearby
residence. The landfill gas reading at GP-7S was greater than 100% of the lower explosive limit
(LEL). It is noted that the reading measured at gas monitoring probe GP-7S is similar to past
readings and is indicative of soil gas conditions proximal to the buried waste. The methane
reading at GP-7S was 32.1%. Access to the site in the vicinity of this probe is restricted to
trained landfill personnel who are aware of these conditions. Landfill gas and methane were also
measured at gas monitoring probes GP-5S and GP-5D at low concentrations in February 2015.
As with the results for GP-7S, these readings are indicative of soil gas conditions proximal to the
buried waste and access to the site in the vicinity of these probes is restricted to trained landfill
personnel who are aware of these conditions. The results of the February 2015 landfill gas
monitoring are consistent with previous monitoring completed at the site, indicating that landfill
gas is not migrating laterally away from the buried waste. Consequently, there does not appear
to be an immediate risk associated with the migration of landfill gas at the facility.
