Dear Mr. DeNeale;
On May 9, 2016 the Division of Waste Management (Division), Solid Waste Section received by
email your letter entitled;
Riverbend Steam Station, Ash Excavation Project, Notice of Intent to Excavate Ponded Ash.
Prepared by Duke Energy. May 2016. DIN 26038.
The Division has reviewed your letter outlining Duke Energy’s plan to begin the excavation
process of the primary ash basin at the Riverbend Steam Station (Facility), located in Gaston
County. The outline presented for excavation at the Facility contains no activities currently
regulated by the Division, therefore the Division concurs with the proposed activity. The
concurrence of the Division of Waste Management in no way permits or approves activities
regulated by other local, state or federal agencies that may have jurisdiction over activities at the
Facility.
