Subject: Alternative Weight Method, Approval
Permit No. 1812-INDUS-2008, Duke Energy Marshall Steam Station
Catawba County, DIN 27015
Dear Ms. Hardin:
On November 15, 2016 the Division of Waste Management Solid Waste Section (Section)
received Duke Energy’s request entitled;
Industrial Landfill No.1 Alternative Method for Establishing Truck Weights, Permit No.: 1812-
INDUS, Marshall Steam Station, Catawba County, Terrell, North Carolina 28682. Prepared by
Duke Energy. November 2016. DIN 27012.
In accordance with Attachment 3, Part 1, Condition 8, of the landfill’s permit to operate, Duke
Energy has requested the establishment of an alternative method for determining the weight of
material being disposed of in Cells 1 and 2 of the industrial landfill, permit no. 1812-INDUS-
2008. Specifically, Duke Energy is requesting survey data be approved for establishing the
volume and with an established average density (1.2 tons per cubic yard) of material determine
weight. The Section has reviewed the request and approves the proposed alternative method.
The Section requests that the next time the permit for the Marshall Steam Station is either
amended or modified that the alternative method be incorporated in the Operations Plan.
