Dear Mr. Maxwell:
The Solid Waste Section (Section) has completed a review of the Extension Request to Assess/Evaluate
Appendix I Inorganic Constituent (Metals) Exceedances letter dated October 24, 2016 (DIN 26926) and
submitted on behalf of Gaston County by Buxton Environmental, Inc. for the Gaston County Subtitle D
MSW Landfill, Solid Waste Permit Number 3606. The letter was submitted in response to
correspondence from the Section dated August 8, 2016 (DIN 26551) requiring Gaston County to address
inorganic constituent exceedances.
In response to the inorganic groundwater exceedances at the landfill and in accordance with 15A NCAC

Gaston County is requesting an extension to submit the ASD by December 29, 2017.
As a result, the extension request is approved as described. If you have any questions or concerns
regarding this letter, please feel free to contact me by email at ervin.lane@ncdenr.gov or by
phone at 919.707.8288. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Sincerely,
Ervin Lane
