Solid Waste Permit Number 0501
DIN 26985
Dear Mr. Hurley:
The Solid Waste Section (Section) has completed a review of the Extension Request for Alternate
Source Demonstration-Metals letter dated October 31, 2016 (DIN 26979) and submitted on behalf of
Ashe County by Municipal Engineering Services Co., P.A. for the Ashe County Subtitle D MSW Landfill,
Solid Waste Permit Number 0501. The letter was submitted in response to correspondence from the
Section dated August 8, 2016 (DIN 26544) requiring Ashe County to address inorganic constituent
exceedances.
In response to the inorganic groundwater exceedances at the landfill and in accordance with 15A NCAC
13B .1633, Ashe County will be conducting an Alternate Source Demonstration (ASD). In addition, Ashe
County is requesting an extension to submit the ASD by February 6, 2017.
As a result, the extension request is approved as described. If you have any questions or concerns
regarding this letter, please feel free to contact me by email at ervin.lane@ncdenr.gov or by
phone at 919.707.8288. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Sincerely,
Ervin Lane
