RE: Subgrade Inspection – Phase 2B-2 Waste Industries High Point C&D Landfill, High Point, North Carolina On August 31, 2016, I visited the Waste Industries High Point C&D Landfill to inspect the subgrade of Phase 2B-2. During each inspection I found the soil types were consistent with those encountered during drilling for site permitting. A relatively small area of the sideslope adjacent to the existing landfill contained portions of partially weathered rock just at, or slightly above, subgrade. Based on my observations, I certify that the subgrade soils are materially consistent with the soil types found during the site investigation. _______________________ Joan A. (S+G) recently completed the well abandonment for wells related to the Phase 2B-2 landfill unit at the WI High Point Construction and Demolition (C&D) Landfill, on behalf of WI High Point, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Waste Industries USA, Inc. The following is a summary of the abandonment activities for this site. Well Abandonment Construction on Phase 2B- 2 at the WI High Point C&D Landfill is planned to commence the last week of July 2016. Two wells located in the Phase 2B-2 footprint (P-16 and P-29), and one well located near the creek just outside the surrounding construction zone (HA-5) were abandoned on July 22, 2016. Please note that although well HA-5 is not located in the planned construction zone, it was considered close enough to warrant abandonment prior to construction activities. Well locations are shown on FFigure 1. On July 22, 2016 S+G personnel met personnel from Geologic Exploration, Inc.1 on site, for well abandonment. Abandonment depths for PZ-16, P-29 and HA-5 were 7ft below ground surface (bgs), 27ft bgs and 2.5ft bgs, respectively. All three wells were properly abandoned in accordance with 2C Standards, by removal of the outer casing and as much pipe as possible, then grouting to the ground surface with a bentonite slurry and cement.
