(Shield). Landfill gas has been detected at levels exceeding the lower explosive limit in probes MP-9 and MP-12 during recent monitoring events. Monitoring probes MP-9 and MP-12 were installed in close proximity to the western waste boundary prior to the purchase of additional land for use as buffer. Shield has requested to install new landfill gas probes (MP-31 and MP-32) within the recently purchased property to replace existing probes MP-9 and MP-12. The Section approves the requested modification to the landfill gas monitoring network and the City of Albemarle is allowed to proceed with its implementation. The City of Albemarle should conduct landfill gas monitoring probe installation and abandonment in accordance with 15A NCAC 02C .0100, in addition to submitting installation and abandonment records to the Section. The City of Albemarle should also submit a revised landfill gas monitoring plan reflecting the monitoring network modification. If you have any questions or additional requests, please feel free to contact me at (919) 707-8288 or by e- mail at ervin.lane@ncdenr.gov.
