FACILITY COMPLIANCE INSPECTION REPORT Division of Waste Management Solid Waste Section Page 2 of 2 AREAS OF CONCERN AND COMMENTS: 1) The “No Trespassing” signage was present at each of the signs for the septage land application site. 2) Tanks accessible for inspection. Grass starting to get tall around the tanks. 3) Tanks appeared to be structurally sound. No leaks noticed. 4) No septage spills noticed on the ground by the tanks or on the tanks. The screening tanks need to be pumped out. Since the screening tanks have had septage in them, any rain water that falls into the tanks becomes contaminated with the septage. Thus, any liquid or solids within the tanks needs to be handled as septage. Plastic trash can needs to be taken out of the screening tank. It appears that there has been no recent activity. The metal screens and platforms were missing. 5) No odor or vector issues noticed. 6) No change noticed that would affect any of the setback distances. 7) Site did not appear to be in use on a regular basis. Septage still in some of the tanks. Septage cannot just stay in the tanks indefinitely. Septage Management Rule .0841(r) states that “Septage shall not be stored in a detention or treatment facility for more than six months.” 8) Records not currently required for this septage detention facility. 9) Wooden posts had been placed around the screening tanks. Now, just some type of barrier such as a chain needs to be run from post to post. The barrier is needed to help prevent someone from falling into the buried screening tanks.
