Re: Leachate Release Results
Davidson County Landfill
Davidson County
Solid Waste Permit Number 2906
DIN 26510
Dear Mr. Buck:
The Solid Waste Section has completed a review of the Leachate Release Results report dated July 20,
2016 (DIN 26509) and submitted on behalf of Davidson County by Smith Gardner, Inc. for the Davidson
County Landfill, Solid Waste Permit Number 2906. The report was submitted in response to a Notice of
Violation dated June 20, 2016 and the approved Leachate Release Response Plan dated June 24, 2016
(DINs 26322 and 26323).
Subsurface soil sampling was conducted on June 30, 2016 to evaluate the extent of the potential
environmental impacts from the release. The soil samples were analyzed for Appendix I constituents.
The analytical soil results indicated no volatile organic compounds exceeded the Preliminary Soil
Remediation Goals (PSRGs). However, cobalt and vanadium were detected above their Preliminary Soil
Remediation Goals (PSRGs) for the Protection of Groundwater and the Residential Health Based in all of
the soil samples including the landfill’s background soil sample.
As a result, based upon the soil assessment conducted at the landfill, no additional environmental
assessment associated with this leachate release is required at this time. If you have any questions or
concerns regarding this letter, please feel free to contact me at 828.296.4706 or by email at
