Dear Mr. Nanney:
On June 8, 2016 the Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Section (Section)
received Rutherford County’s request, entitled;
Notification of Rutherford County Solid Waste Universal Waste Handling Permit Additions.
Prepared by Rutherford County. June 2016. DIN 26213.
The request concerns the County’s Plan to accept mercury-containing devices and lamps
containing mercury at the landfill facility, Permit No. 8105-MSWLF-.
The Section has reviewed the Plan and approves of its immediate implementation. Rutherford
County shall consider the referenced Plan (DIN 26213) as an approved document. The facility
should operate in this manner until the current permit is either amended or modified. The next
time the facility prepares either a permit amendment or modification it is expected to submit a
complete revised Operations Plan which includes the mercury products recycling plan.
