MCAS Cherry Point Wastewater Treatment Plant - Trickling Filters Demolition
Estimated start date: Mid June-July 2016
Estimated completion date: August 2016
Estimated volume of coal combustion by-product to be used: 5000 CYDs (6750 tons)
Coal combustion by-product from Cherry Point Central Heating Plant will be used as structural fill for the
replacement of two trickling filters at the Cherry Point Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The
WWTP project will also consist of repairs and improvements including replacing rapid sand filters with
disc filter units, upgrading to a UV disinfection system, replacing four aeration blowers, improving the
backwash waste pump, and removing and replacing sidewalks, asphalt and gravel pavement and
hatches. Coal combustion by-product will be used as backfill for the demolition of the rapid sand filters
only.
