November 8, 2024 Mr. Mark Delehant Burke County General Services Director P.O. Box 1486 Morganton, NC 28680 RE: Burke County, East Burke Landfill Permit Number 12-02 Landfill Gas Monitoring Report - Fourth Quarter of 2024 Project 2243730, Phase 05 Dear Mark, LaBella Associates (LaBella) is submitting the attached methane monitoring report for the East Burke Landfill, Permit Number 12-02. The 2024 fourth quarter landfill gas monitoring event was performed on October 28, 2024. During this event, LaBella monitored seven gas probes (GP-1, GP-113, GP-2, GP-3, GP-4, GP-5, and GP-6). The approximate locations of the gas probes are depicted in Drawing 1. The monitoring data for the gas probes and buildings are summarized in the attached Landfill Gas Monitoring Data Log. Methane was detected above the lower explosive limit (LEL) in gas probes, GP-1(30.3%), GP-3 (47.0%), and GP-4 (51.1%); however, note that methane was not detected in gas probe GP-1B, which is between GP-1 and the property boundary. These exceedances are consistent with previous results. The detections and exceedances are summarized in Table 1 and Table 2, respectively. We have included a NCDEQ Environmental Monitoring Reporting Form (EMRF) and will forward a copy of this report to the NCDEQ Solid Waste Section. A copy of this report should be maintained in the facility's records. The next quarterly monitoring event is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. If we can provide any additional information, please do not hesitate to call me at (336) 323-0092.
