Re: Proposed Abandonment of LFG Monitoring Probe MG-24
South Wake Landfill
Permit# 9222-MSWLF-2008
FID: 1895780
Dear Mr. Metcalf:
The Solid Waste Section (Section) has reviewed the Proposed Abandonment of LFG Monitoring Probe MG-
24 (FID 1894485) submitted by Smith Gardner Inc., (S+G) on behalf of GFL Environmental, Inc. MG-24 is
located along the western facility boundary and methane has not been detected above the lower
explosive limit during the last two years of landfill gas monitoring.
A renewable natural gas (RNG) facility is proposed to be constructed immediately west of the landfill unit.
The proposed location for the RNG facility requires the abandonment of MG-24. S+G proposes to abandon
MG-24 during the third quarter of this year and will subsequently submit a revised Landfill Gas Monitoring
Plan for Section review and approval.
The Section approves the landfill gas monitoring well abandonment request and MG-24 should be
abandoned in accordance with 15A NCAC 02C .0113(d). Please contact me at (919) 707-8288 or by e-mail
at ervin.lane@deq.nc.gov if you have any questions or concerns regarding this letter. Thank you in
advance for your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,
Ervin Lane
