Ms. Thompson stated that the trees must be mown or removed before they could grow in size. The landfill should be mown at a minimum of twice per year, or as often as needed, so that the landfill could be properly inspected for issues and to help keep woody vegetation at bay. 4204-Transfer-2013 7. In preparation for the potential impacts from Tropical Storm Debby, the facility had the leachate tank recently pumped. 8. The condition of the tipping floor is consistent with the daily operation of the facility. All waste is removed from the tipping floor at the end of the operating day. The tipping floor is also washed at the end of the operating day. 9. Waste was observed within the transfer trailer loading bay. Ms. Thompson recommended that the waste be removed, and the leachate drains cleaned in preparation for the arrival of Tropical Storm Debby. Mr. Pike provided Ms. Thompson with photographs of the waste removal and cleaned leachate drains prior to the end of the operating day. 10. Minimal windblown waste was observed near the transfer station. 11. Electronic goods are stored within a building, adjacent to the white goods and metal recycling area. The electronics are palletized and will be picked up once the facility has enough pallets to fill a trailer. Continue to ensure that the electronic goods are stored upright to minimize glass breakage. 12. The metal recycling pile was small and well managed during this inspection. 13. The facility has purchased a grinder to assist with the grinding of vegetative waste and bulky C&D waste. The grinder was set up in the metal recycling area for a demonstration later in the morning. Several areas of standing water were observed within the yard waste area. It is recommended that the area be graded so that water is shed from the area.
