Re: Dumping of Coal Combustion By -Products in the Weldon Yard Waste Facility
Dear Mr. Crowder:
This is written concerning your inquiry recently about the possibility of coal ash being dumped in
the Town of Weldon notified yard waste site located on Aurelian Springs Rd. in Weldon, Halifax
Co.
Under requirements listed in 15A NCAC 13B .1402 GENERAL PROVISIONS FOR SOLID
WASTE COMPOST FACILITIES (g) (3)(A) a site such as this being operated by Weldon is
classified as a small type I compost facility, and is permitted to receive only yard waste which is
defined in NCGS 130A-290 as stumps limbs, leaves, grass, and untreated/unpainted.wood.
Coal ash does not meet the definition of yard waste and is not acceptable to be received in a
yard waste site.
