Re: Receptor Survey
Former Seaboard Chemical and Riverdale Drive Landfill Site
Jamestown, Guilford County, North Carolina
EPA ID# NCD071574164
Solid Waste Section Permit No.: 4101-MSWLF-1979
Dear Mr. Babb:
We have reviewed the Receptor Survey letter submitted by Seaboard Group II and the City of High Point
(SG2 HP) on March 22, 2024 and revised on May 20, 2024. The document was submitted to the Hazardous
Waste Section (HWS) in response to a request from December 11, 2023, when the HWS requested that
the receptor survey "include an inventory and map of all identifiable wells, springs, and surface water
intakes used as sources of potable water within 1,500 feet of the property boundary, or if warranted 1,500
feet from the known existing contaminant plume." The May 20, 2024 Receptor Survey letter meets the
requirements outlined in the HWS request.
Assessment of groundwater contamination below the Former Seaboard and Riverdale Drive Landfill Site is
at a mature stage and remediation of impacted groundwater has been underway for several years. The
past assessment and remediation monitoring reports indicate that the groundwater flow direction in the
surficial aquifer and bedrock aquifers is to the east or northeast, in the general direction of decreasing
topography towards the upper reaches of the Randleman Lake impoundment on the Deep River. One
water -supply well on an adjacent property is used for domestic water -supply; however, the well is located
west of the site, in the opposite direction of the identified groundwater flow direction. While not anticipated,
the future needs of the HWS or Solid Waste Section may require further information about the well or
possible sampling and testing.
