Subject: NC/NR site in Cherryville and Residential
Good Morning Ron- I got a call from Josiah and Bob Payne of Cedar Rock Env. I wanted to give you thedetails of our conversation. Cedar Rock asked me about how to proceed with a NC/NRfarm gasoline tank (there is also a heating oil tank on the same property). They wereout to the site a second time to excavate soil and had already pulled a couple oftruckloads out with the soil not getting any cleaner. They are at 20 feet andgroundwater is likely at 22 feet. I told them that they might consider not digginganymore and sample the closest water supply wells in an effort to mitigate the riskrather than go on to a full investigation of the site at this time. There is a dug well(not in use) within 30 feet and another well within 300 feet with many more within500 feet. The tank was unused for a couple of decades and if the nearby water supplywells do not contain petroleum constituents it likely will not become contaminated. They could abandon the nearby dug well and the other wells outside of 250 feet couldbe eliminated as receptors enabling closure with a NRP after the risk was reduced toLow. Carin Lee Kromm, L.G.
