State Contract # N42621-A
Terracon Project # 71237029A
Dear Mr. Gallagher:
Terracon Consultants, Inc. (Terracon) is pleased to submit this letter summarizing historical
water supply well sampling results for select properties in the vicinity of the former
Albemarle Dump (Site). This work was completed in general accordance with Terracon’s
work plan for Task Order 571RA-13a, 18a-c, and 19a-d, dated August 30, 2023, and North
Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Approval of Work Plan and Cost
Proposal dated August 31, 2023.
Site Description
The Site is located on Nanny Drive in Albemarle, North Carolina, approximately 2 miles
northeast of downtown Albemarle, North Carolina and is primarily wooded and cleared land
with a stream bisecting the parcel from west to east. Three discrete Waste Disposal Areas
(WDA A, B and C) occupy 10.47 acres of the 77.16-acre site parcel (Stanly County Parcel
No. 653901079384) owned by Ms. Ruth A. Page (AECOM, 2021).
The area surrounding the site is a mix of rural and residential properties, for which public
water is not available. As of 2015, 38 water supply wells have been identified by prior
consultants within 1,000 feet of the Site. Additional properties have been developed since
that time, and are presumed to have water supply wells. Contaminates associated with the
Site have historically been identified in groundwater, including groundwater from five
downgradient water supply wells (Well 1, 3, 12, 13 and 28). The five water supply wells
have Point-of-Entry (POE) filtration systems. The POE systems generally consist of a
sediment filter, two Granulated Active Carbon (GAC) vessels, and an ultraviolet (UV) filter.
Water samples for the POE filtration systems are collected from the influent, mid-point, and
effluent ports of the GAC vessels, which are after the sediment filter and before the UV

filter. Information about the location and installation dates of the POE systems is
summarized as follows:
Well ID Address Installation Date
Well 1 32311 Nanny Drive 5/19/2011
Well 3 32311 Nanny Drive 5/19/2011
Well 12 29387 Pennington Road 2/28/2012
Well 13 31796 Old Herlocker Road 10/4/2011
Well 28 34512 Tiffany Drive 1/3/2014
In addition to the POE systems an additional 33 water supply wells without POE systems
within 1,000 feet of the Site have been identified. Historical data collected has not
warranted the installation of POE systems on these wells, but they are sampled, pending
permission from the property owners, for monitoring on an annual or bi-annual basis. Water
supply well information is summarized in Table 1, and locations are depicted on Figure 1.
Terracon reviewed existing POE and potable well sampling reports for the Site and
surrounding properties. This data compilation includes prior reports available on
Laserfiche, those provided by the Unit PM, and the recent annual sampling activities
completed in November and December 2023, as part of Task Order 571WS-19a and
571WS-19b. Pertinent information from these reports are included as Appendix A.
Tables summarizing highest detections for the POE system wells is included as Table 2,
and water supply wells as Table 3.
This information is submitted to the Unit PM for review and future remedial investigative
and planning purposes.
If you have any questions, please contact Michael Dail at (984) 202-4055.
Sincerely,
Terracon Consultants, Inc.
