(Geosyntec) compared the March 2016 and December 2016 groundwater results (Table 1) to contemporary Gross Contaminant Levels (GCLs). Upon review, no exceedances were identified. Due to the lack of GCL exceedances and the inability to pursue site closure until free product is no longer detected, Norfolk Southern proposes conducting one groundwater sampling event in 2023 to document current concentrations of analytes in the groundwater in addition to the approved semi-annual free product gauging activities. Norfolk Southern does not anticipate collecting any additional groundwater samples, with the exception of the individual 2023 sampling event, until free product is no longer detected during free product gauging activities. Attached for your review is Table 1, Groundwater Sample Results – 2016 and Figure 1, AST Area Monitoring Well Locations – 2023. If you have any technical questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Tyler McNabb of Geosyntec at 865-330-0037 or Mr. Beau Hodge of Geosyntec at 919-424-1828. 2 Sincerely, Daniel Hunt, P.G.
