Based on the County’s records, Ingles Markets is the property owner, and you are listed as the contact. Also, according to Department information and records, the property to the southwest, Ace Hardware & TD Bank, was previously used for selling petroleum products, i.e., gasoline. There is a documented release of petroleum products recorded with the Department which affected the site soils and groundwater. The Department required assessment and/or remediation of the environmental contamination in the past, but due to financial reasons had to cease all work at that time. The Department now has new funding which will allow the Department to reconsider the environmental status of the property and surrounding area. The Department, through its contractor, will be performing additional testing. Based on the testing, the Department may close its investigation of the property or may have to do further assessment and/or remediation. Once the Department has completed the initial assessment, you will be notified of the results, and the Department’s decision as to whether further work is required or if the site investigation/incident may be closed. At that point the Department will also inform you whether a deed restriction for residual environmental contamination is required or not. As stated above, the letter is provided for your information. Other than agreeing to allow the Department access to your property, nothing further is required of you. Please sign the attached access agreement and return it to the address/email listed on the agreement. The Department will contact you to let you know when the additional work is scheduled to be performed. The Department appreciates your cooperation in allowing for the assessment of the property. We also appreciate your cooperation in providing information or assistance to our contractor. We will keep you informed of any significant findings. If you have additional questions, please call me at (828) 296-4500. Sincerely, Katie Bernal, P.G.
