Dear Mr. Powlus: On February 19, 2024, the Division of Waste Management’s Underground Storage Tank Section, Mooresville Regional Office, received the Site Check Report for the above-referenced site. This information has been reviewed and will remain in the UST Section’s files. Upon review, the Division has determined that this report is incomplete. Specifically, per the latest edition of the UST Section’s Guidelines for Site Checks, Tanks Closure, and Initial Response and Abatement, if soil fill is not around the spill bucket, and thus no soil sample can be collected at the spill bucket, then a groundwater sample must be collected as close as possible to the spill bucket and submitted to a North Carolina certified laboratory for the appropriate analyses as set forth in the Guidelines. Please submit this information within 45 days of the date of this letter.   If you have any questions regarding the actions that must be taken, or the rules mentioned in this letter, please contact me at the address or telephone number listed below for the Mooresville Regional Office.
