(AECOM) on behalf of Speedway, LLC (Speedway) is submitting this Site Check report for the above referenced store.On August 18,2022, Speedway conducted routine testing on the fill port spill buckets for the underground storage tanks (USTs)at the above-referenced location (Figure 1).The 8,000-gallon premium unleaded (PUL) gasoline UST fill port spill bucket did not pass visual inspection, and a UST- 17A form was filed with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ). The UST-17A form is included as Attachment A.To determine if a release may have occurred to the environment from the spill bucket,environmental assessment activities were conducted,and the results are documented in this report.Following Spill Bucket replacement, a tightness test was conducted with passing results (Attachment B). SITE ACTIVITIES UST Spill Bucket Sampling On August 22,2022,AECOM hand augured soil from beneath the PUL spill bucket, recording photoionization detector (PID) readings and collecting a soil sample in a Ziploc bag and stored on ice. AECOM then bottled the sample for laboratory analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons for gasoline range organics (TPH-GRO). The sample was dropped off at Pace Analytical Services in Huntersville, North Carolina for analysis at the Huntersville, North Carolina laboratory. AECOM Site Check Report November 11, 2022 Speedway 6949 Page 2 Mount Airy, North Carolina RESULTS TPH-GRO was detected in the soil sample (SPILL BUCKET (2-3))at concentrations exceeding the NCDEQ Action Level of 50 milligrams-per-kilogram (mg/kg).Due to the exceedance,AECOM requested Pace laboratory to run risk-based analyzes by EPA Method 8260.Analytical results showed soil concentrations did not exceed the lower of the soil-to- groundwater or residential maximum soil contaminant concentrations (MSCCs).A Summary of Over-Excavation Soil Sampling Results is included in Table 1,The laboratory report is included in Attachment C. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS As indicated in Table 1,the soil sample collected during the site check did not exceed the Soil to Groundwater or Residential MSCCs, therefore AECOM, on behalf of Speedway, recommends no further action. Reported results are not rounded until the final step prior to reporting.
