(ATC), on behalf of Cary Oil Company (Cary Oil), is submitting a summary of Air Sparge/Soil Vapor Extraction (AS/SVE) system operation and maintenance (O&M) activities conducted from November 2013 through January 2014. O&M site visits were conducted by ATC personnel on November 14, November 27, December 10 and December 30, 2013, and January 16 and January 28, 2014. System run-time was 100% from November 2013 through January 2014. Soil vapor extraction wells SVE-6 through SVE-8 were turned off on April 8, 2013, to increase system vacuum in areas of highest groundwater impact. During site visits in October and November 2013, air sparge wells AS-4, AS-5, AS-7, AS-8, AS-9, and AS-10 were turned off and pressures at the remaining operational sparge wells were adjusted to focus remedial efforts in areas of remaining contaminant impact. Vacuum readings for each well point at the SVE manifold were set at approximately 56 inches of water. Pressure readings for each well point at the AS manifold were set at approximately 16 psi. An SVE effluent air sample was collected on December 30, 2013. The air sample was submitted to Accutest Laboratories for analysis by EPA Method 18. The laboratory analytical report is provided in Appendix A. Table 2 shows SVE cumulative recovery calculations based on system effluent sampling data. Assuming consistent recovery during each day of operation between sampling dates, approximately 3,036 lbs of total BTEX have been recovered since system startup. Measurements of depth to water and dissolved oxygen were recorded from 20 site monitoring wells on a monthly basis during the first quarter of system operation and are now recorded on a semi-annual basis during groundwater monitoring events, to determine the effectiveness of the air sparge system.
