A topographic map of the site is included as Figure 1. This report includes the laboratory analytical results for the August 19. 1999, sampling event. Wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-4. MW-5. MW-6, MW-7, MW-8, RW-3, and RW-5. were gauged and wells MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, RW-3, and R\V-5 \vere sampled on August 19, 1999. Monitoring well MW-2 was not sampled due to the presence of free product at a thickness of 0.31 feet (ft). Absorbent socks were replaced in RW-3 and R\V-5. Part of a skimmer system was found installed in R\V-2. MW-1, rvlW-7, and MW-8 were not sampled because the water table was too deep. ATC was unable to locate RW-6. Table 1 lists groundwater levels for the August 19, 1999, sampling event. The sampling was done in accordance \Vith Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) protocol. A minimum of three well volumes were removed from each monitoring well prior to sampling. A disposable. !-liter bailer was used to obtain each groundwater sample. Supply wells at Jerry's Place. the Brown residence, and the Evans residence were sampled on August 19. 1999. The supply well was purged by running the outdoor spigot approximately one half-hour. The groundwater samples were placed in appropriate laboratory-supplied containers. properly labeled and preserved on ice. The groundwater samples \Vcre transported under chain-of-custody to Paradigm Analytical Laboratories, Inc. in \Vilmington, North Carolina. The groundwater samples fTom the monitoring wells were analyzed by EPA Method 602 including methyl tert butyl ether (MTBE) and diisopropyl ether (DIPE). The groundwater sample from the supply well was analyzed by EPA Method 62300. The analytical laboratory results are shown in Appendix A. As shown in Table 2, benzene concentrations were above North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources Groundwater Quality 2L Standards (2L Standards) in MW-4, MW-5, RW-3, and RW-5. Toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes concentrations were above 2L Standards in RW-3 and RW-5. MTBE concentrations were above 2L Standards in MW-4 and RW- 5. DIPE concentrations were above 2L Standards in RW-5. As sho\\11 in Table 2. benzene, xylenes, MTBE, DIPE, naphthalene, and 1.2.4-trimcthylbcnzene concentrations were detected in the groundwater sample from the supply well at Jerry's Place. However, benzene was the only analyte detected above the 2L Standards. The supply wells at the BroVvn and Evans residences were below laboratory detection limits for all analytes. Based on the recent laboratory results, ATC recommends the continued semiannual sampling of the monitoring wells. However, the presence of free product in RW-2 will require additional recovery methods. A TC recommends quarterly site visits to measure the free product and to replace the absorbent socks in RW-3 and RW-5.
