Harmony Grocery - Incident # 3831- Clarification to Health Risk Evaluations Date:Thursday, September 28, 2017 10:08:00 AM Attachments:image001.png3831 Sept.pdf Mr. Foushee and Chief Lynch, The UST Section will be providing a hard copy letter to you regarding the clarification to the health risk evaluations made concerning the water being used at the park and volunteer fire department. Based on the information provided by Chief Lynch and you, our toxicologist has appended the original health risk evaluation. The water can be used for washing hands and the flushing of toilets. It is still recommended that the water not be used for consumptive purposes, i.e. drinking. As we understand the drinking fountain at the park has been disabled and signage has been put in place to not drink the water. Additionally, the water at the fire dept was used for only the washing of the fire trucks but is no longer used for that purpose. Based on the email exchanges with Person County, the UST Section would like to provide an explanation of providing alternate water to affected properties. The alternate water program is used to provide water for residential properties in which the properties well has been affected by a petroleum release. Given the circumstances of water use at both facilities, the UST Section is limited as to what it can provide. Bottled water could be provided to the fire department if it is so desired even though there is very limited use of the property. Unfortunately, there is not an immediate remedy for the park. The former grocery site is a new project in which we have limited information available at this time. When we have more definitive information with regards to the extent of the contamination and a better understanding of the hydrogeology of the site and surrounding area, we’ll revisit possible viable options for the park and fire dept. If you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out and contact me. Regards, Mark Petermann Mark A.
