RE: Supply well Sampling Results Former Moore’s Exxon (Glendale General Store) 7398 Highway 16 South Glendale Springs, Ashe County, NC DWM Incident #6146 To Whom It May Concern: The North Carolina Division of Waste Management, Underground Storage Tank Section is conducting an environmental assessment at the referenced site. As part of the assessment, samples were collected from water supply wells in the area on December 16, 2011 for analysis of volatile organic compounds using test method 6200B. According to the laboratory, the water sample collected from the supply well at your property contained chloromethane at a concentration of 7.8 micrograms per liter (µg/l). The North Carolina water quality standard for chloromethane is 2.6 µg/l. Therefore, chloromethane was detected at a concentration exceeding the North Carolina water quality Standard. Please note that chloromethane is a common byproduct of the well chlorination process, and is not commonly associated with gasoline. The DWM will perform a health risk evaluation and the results of the evaluation will be forwarded to you upon completion. If you have any questions regarding the sampling results, the DWM UST Section recommends contacting the Ashe County Health Director.
