Dear Mr. Kelly:
Please find attached the results of the air monitoring performed for two of S&ME's drilling
personnel while intrusive activities were performed at the landfill on February 18 and 19,
1997. Monitoring was performed using a low-flow pump with a calibrated flow rate of 102
cubic centimeters per minute. Pumped ambient air was passed through glass fiber filter/
florsil sampling media. On February 18, 1997, Mr. Michael Martin and Mr. Ray Norwood
were monitored for a total time of 378 minutes (i.e. 39.5 liters, Samples 1 and 2 on the
attached laboratory report). The same employees were monitored on February 19, 1997.
Mr. Martin was monitored for 169 minutes and Mr. Norwood was monitored for 173
minutes (Samples 3 at 17.2 liters and 4, at 17.6 liters respectively).
The analytical report indicates that no particulate PCBs were detected on the four
sampling media at the detection level of 0.2 µg. No volatile PCBs were detected. This
correlates to less than 0.005 mg/M3 of PCBs for February 18 and less than 0.011 and
0.012 mg/M3 PCBs on February 19, 1996.
