L.P. 8429 Triad Drive, Greensboro, NC Dear Mr. Mao, On behalf of Penske Truck Leasing Company, LP (Penske), GHD is submitting this letter to provide the results of low flow confirmation sampling with low level polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) analytical method limited using 8270E SIM at the Penske Truck Leasing Facility located in Greensboro, North Carolina (Site). A Site Location Map is included as Figure 1, and a Site Plan as Figure 2. The environmental investigation conducted at the Site over the last month has included the sampling of one monitoring well following underground storage tank (UST) abatement activities on-Site. The purpose was to resample the monitoring well in lieu of sampling conducted during the Limited Site Assessment (LSA) activities. Previous laboratory analytical results for semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) by EPA Test Method 8270E contained laboratory reporting limits above applicable North Carolina Groundwater Quality Standards (GWQS). GHD remobilized to the Site on March 4, 2021 to resample monitoring well MW-1 for the following suite of analyses: – Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by EPA Text Method 8260D – SVOCs by EPA Test Method 8270E SIM – SVOCs by EPA Test Method 8270E – Volatile Petroleum Hydrocarbons (VPHs) by EPA Test Method MA-VPH – Extractable petroleum hydrocarbons (EPHs) by EPA Test Method ME-EPH The location of monitoring well MW-1 is depicted on Figure 3. Results of the most recent groundwater sampling indicate all compounds including SVOCs below applicable NC 2L Groundwater Quality Standards (2L Standards) and Gross Contamination Levels (GCLs) except for select compounds detected in the blank and primary sample due to presumptive laboratory error. Groundwater analytical results are included as Table 1. The laboratory analytical report for the groundwater sample collected on March 4, 2021 is included as Attachment 1. Based on the over-excavation, removal of hydrocarbon-affected soils and results of confirmation sampling in accordance with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) UST Section guidelines, Penske believes that documentation of clean closure of the three USTs has been completed and requests the closure of UST database incident #45326 and No Further Action (NFA) status be assigned for the Site. Receipt The samples were received on 3/6/2021 12:56 PM. Unless otherwise noted below, the samples arrived in good condition, and where required, properly preserved and on ice. The temperature of the cooler at receipt was 0.0º C. GC/MS VOA Method 8260D: The continuing calibration verification (CCV) associated with batch 400-523702 recovered above the upper control limit for Chloromethane and Methyl acetate. The samples associated with this CCV were non-detects for the affected analytes; therefore, the data have been reported. Method 8260D: The continuing calibration verification (CCV) associated with batch 400-523702 recovered outside acceptance criteria, low biased, for Bromomethane, Chloroethane, Dichlorodifluoromethane and Trichlorofluoromethane. A reporting limit (RL) standard was analyzed, and the target analyte was detected. Since the associated samples were non-detect for this analyte, the data have been reported. No additional analytical or quality issues were noted, other than those described above or in the Definitions/Glossary page. GC/MS Semi VOA Method 8270E: The continuing calibration verification (CCV) associated with batch 400-523451 recovered outside acceptance criteria, low biased, for Hexachlorocyclopentadiene and Indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene. A reporting limit (RL) standard was analyzed, and the target analyte was detected. Since the associated samples were non-detect for this analyte, the data have been reported. Method 8270E: The method blank for preparation batch 400-523386 and analytical batch 400-523451 contained Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, Di-n-butyl phthalate, Benzo[b]fluoranthene and Benzo[a]pyrene above the method detection limit. This target analyte concentration was less than the reporting limit (RL); therefore, re-extraction and/or re-analysis of samples was not performed. Methods 8270E SIM: The method blank for preparation batch 400-523386 and analytical batch 400-523558 contained Naphthalene, 2-Methylnaphthalene, Benzo[b]fluoranthene, Indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene, 1-Methylnaphthalene, Benzo[g,h,i]perylene, Benzo[k]fluoranthene, Benzo[a]anthracene, Benzo[a]pyrene and Dibenz(a,h)anthracene above the method detection limit. This target analyte concentration was less than the reporting limit (RL); therefore, re-extraction and/or re-analysis of samples was not performed.
