Landfill Gas Monitoring Report - 2023 Third Quarter

Dear Mark:
LaBella Associates (LaBella) is submitting the attached methane monitoring results for Kirksey Drive
Landfill, Permit Number 12-01. The 2023 third quarter landfill gas monitoring event was performed
on August 29, 2023. During this event, LaBella monitored gas probes GP-1, GP-2, GP-3, GP-4, GP-5,
and GP-6, as well as the animal shelter and SPCA buildings (Friends for Animals). The approximate
locations of the monitoring locations are depicted in Drawing 1. The monitoring data for the gas
probes and buildings are summarized in the attached Landfill Gas Monitoring Data Log.
Methane was detected above the lower explosive limit (LEL) in gas probes, GP-1(11.6%), GP-3
(47.7%), GP-4 (51.5%), and GP-6 (58.2%), and below the LEL in gas probes, GP-2 (0.1%) and GP-5
(0.1%). Methane detections and LEL exceedances are summarized in the attached Table 1 and
Table 2, respectively. The exceedances in GP-3, GP-4, and GP-6 are consistent with previous results;
however, the exceedance in GP-1 is unusual. LaBella recommends monitoring GP-1 and the nearby
National Guard Armory building on a monthly basis for three months.
We have included a NCDEQ Environmental Monitoring Report Form (EMRF) and will forward a copy of
this report to Jaclynne Drummond with the NCDEQ Solid Waste Section. A copy of this report should
be maintained in the facility's records. The next quarterly monitoring event is scheduled for the
fourth quarter of 2023. If we can provide any additional information, please do not hesitate to call
