Dear Mr. Beane:
On July 19, 2023, Ms. Amanda Thompson, representing the State of North Carolina, Division of Waste
Management Solid Waste Section (Section) inspected the above referenced facility. At the time of the inspection,
Section staff observed leachate pooling within the transfer trailer bay due to clogged drains of the leachate
collection system. Leach ate-sta i ned soils were observed following the natural drainage across the dirt roadway
to the drainage ditch north of the transfer station. Following the inspection, facility staff cleaned the leachate
collection system drains and removed the impacted soils from the site. A follow-up inspection on September 6,
2023, determined that the leachate impacted soils had been removed from the facility. A sampling was
submitted and approved by the Section on September 7, 2023.
This letter serves to confirm that the requirements of the Notice of Violation dated July 31, 2023, have been
satisfied and the violation(s) have been corrected. However, additional sampling may be required if Ms. Elizabeth
Werner, Section Hydrogeologist, determines additional assessment is required. Thank you for your cooperation
