Dear Mr. Beane:
On July 19,2023, Ms. Amanda Thompson, representing the State of North Carolina, Division of Waste
Management Solid Waste Section (Section) inspected the above referenced facility. Atthe time of the inspection,
Section staff observed leachate pooling at a drainage pipe near the western end of the working face. The
leachate had followed the drainage ditch and into the sediment basin. Following the inspection, facility staff
utilized a pump truck to remove leachate and excavated the soils. A follow-up inspection on September 6, 2023,
determined that the release of leachate had been stopped and the working face of the CDLF had been covered.
The removal of the soils was also confirmed. A sampling plan was submitted and approved by the Section on
September 7, 2023.
This letter serves to confirm that the requirements of the Notice of Violation dated July 31, 2023, have been
satisfied and the violation(s) have been corrected. However, additional sampling may be required if Ms. Elizabeth
Werner, Section Hydrogeologist, determines additional assessment is required. Thank you for your cooperation
