(Consultech) is pleased to provide the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) with this site reconnaissance report detailing activities conducted at the Johnson’s Gas & Grocery site located at 8853 Clinton Road in Stedman, Cumberland County, North Carolina. The location of the facility is shown on Figure 1 and a site map is shown in Figure 2. On June 12, 2023 Consultech personnel visited the site in order to conduct a groundwater monitoring event of 21 monitoring wells, 5 recovery wells, 2 piezometers, and 12 air sparge wells previously installed at the site. Upon arriving at the site, the property owner, Mr. Danny Johnson, indicated that most of the existing wells were destroyed during road widening activities conducted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation in 2014 to 2016. During site recconnaissance activities, Consultech was able to locate MW-6 adjacent to the diesel fuel ASTs and MW-12 behind the house across Highway 24 from the site. Wells MW-13, MW-14, MW-15, and MW-16 are located in a dense wooded area to the west of the residence located across Highway 24 from the site. All other wells were not located. A review of historical site images from 2011, 2013, and 2022 shows the former site building and former adjacent house present in the 2011 image. The former site building and former adjacent house were razed in the 2013 image, and a new site building and house are present in the 2022 image. Based on these images, the former UST pit is beneath the current Highway 24 and most monitoring wells were destroyed during road widening activities. Copies of the 2011, 2013, and 2022 images are attached. In addition, current site photographs are attached to this report. 2 If you have any questions regarding this report, please contact me at jliebig@consultechenv.com or (412) 956-3553.
