(WR) has completed the activities described in our proposal number TA-01 for the above referenced site, which was approved by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Underground Storage Tank (UST) Section on April 5, 2023 under Contract # N70522-C. The scope of work, completed on April 20, 2023, included the collection of groundwater samples from on-site groundwater monitoring well MW-1 and water supply well WSW-5. Sampling activities and associated analytical data are discussed in the following paragraphs. The site location is depicted on Figure 1, the site map is included as Figure 2, and a receptor map is included as Figure 3. Groundwater & Surface Water Monitoring Prior to the collection of groundwater samples as described below, an electronic water level meter was used measure the depth to water within monitoring well MW-1. The water level within MW-1 was found to be 34.50 feet beneath the top of casing (ft btoc). The groundwater level is within the screened section of the well. No free product was detected in the monitoring well during this event. Groundwater monitoring well MW-1 was purged and sampled using a dedicated polyethylene bailer. Following purging and adequate recharge of groundwater within the well, samples were decanted directly into pre-preserved laboratory-grade sample containers provided by Waypoint Analytical, Inc. (Waypoint). WSW-5 was purged by allowing the associated well pump to run continuously for a minimum of ten minutes. Following purging, a sample was obtained directly from the sample point and placed into pre-preserved laboratory-grade sample containers provided by Waypoint. WithersRavenel Our People. Your Success. Country Corner Marine – NCDEQ Incident #5406 WR Project No. 23-0307-FE Groundwater Monitoring Letter Report June 2023 Page 2 The samples were submitted to Waypoint for analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by Standard Method (SM) 6200B. Field notes and site photos for the April 20, 2023 event are included as Attachment A. Laboratory Results Analytical results for groundwater and supply well samples collected during the April 2023 monitoring event revealed the following: • Benzene, 1,2-dibromoethane, 1,2-dichloroethane, and methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) exceeded the Gross Contaminant Levels (GCLs) in monitoring well MW-1. • Several petroleum compounds were detected above the 15A NCAC 2L Groundwater Quality Standards (2L Standards). The laboratory report associated with groundwater samples is provided as Attachment B and the results are summarized in Table B-4. WR appreciates the opportunity to be of service to the Federal & State Lead Program. Should you have any questions regarding the attached, please do not hesitate to contact us at (919) 469-3340. 23-0307-FE Dear Flora D'Souza: Waypoint Analytical, LLC (Charlotte) received sample(s) on 4/20/2023 for the analyses presented in the following report. The above referenced project has been analyzed per your instructions. The analyses were performed in accordance with the applicable analytical method. The analytical data has been validated using standard quality control measures performed as required by the analytical method. Quality Assurance, method validations, instrumentation maintenance and calibration for all parameters were performed in accordance with guidelines established by the USEPA (including 40 CFR 136 Method Update Rule May 2021) unless otherwise indicated. Certain parameters (chlorine, pH, dissolved oxygen, sulfite...) are required to be analyzed within 15 minutes of sampling. Usually, but not always, any field parameter analyzed at the laboratory is outside of this holding time. Refer to sample analysis time for confirmation of holding time compliance. The results are shown on the attached Report of Analysis(s). Results for solid matrices are reported on an as- received basis unless otherwise indicated. This report shall not be reproduced except in full and relates only to the samples included in this report. Please do not hesitate to contact me or client services if you have any questions or need additional information.
