Incident #22446 Dear Mr. Moody:
On behalf of the Division of Waste Management, Terraine, Inc., personnel collected water samples from the supply well at 1020 Old Hwy, 21, State Road, NC on March 9, 2010. The sample was analyzed for volatile organic compounds by Standard Method 6200 B. According to the laboratory, the sample contained benzene at a concentration of 210 micrograms per liter (µg/l). The North Carolina Administrative Code (NCAC) Subchapter 2L Standard for benzene is one µg/l; therefore, the water from the supply well is not fit for consumption. The well is identified as WSW-6 on the attached analytical report. Division of Waste Management will complete a Heath Risk Evaluation on the recent analytical testing data, and the HRE will be forwarded to you upon completion. Information available to the Division indicates that you own the property, and the property is currently being rented. As such, you are responsible for insuring that your tenant has a safe source of drinking water. A granular activated carbon point of use treatment system should be installed at the property.
