Huntersville, NC o Current Groundwater Analytical Data: The following monitoring wells and other points were sampled during this reporting period. On May 5,2017 groundwater samples were collected from monitoring wells MV/-l through MW-5 and T-1. One or more concentrations of analytes including benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, total xylenes, methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), naphthalene, isopropylb enzene, n-propylbenzene,l ,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), ethylene dibromide (EDB), 1,2,4-tnmethylbenzene, and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene were detected at concentrations above the 154 NCAC 2L Groundwater Standards (2L Standards) in wells including MW-l, M'W-2, MW-3, MW-4, and T-1. Concentrations of analytes including benzene,l,2-DCA, and EDB were detected above the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) gross contaminant levels (GCLs) in MW-2. Refer to the following Table and Appendix for current groundwater analytical data. No dissolved phase petroleum concentrations have been detected at or above the laboratory detection limits in monitoring well MW-5 since the March 2009 sampling event. Refer to the following table(s) for historical groundwater analytical data. R"fer to Table(s).' Table 3 o Dissolved Phase Plume Size and Location: The on-site dissolved phase plume is iregularly shaped and has an approximate length of 115 feet and width of 85 feet based on the benzene concentrations above 2L Standards. The dissolved phase plume that is above the NCDEQ GCLs is approximately 16 feet by 10 (Figure 5). The plume maps for constituents that are above the GCLs are shown on the following figures. R"fe, Io Figure(s).' Figures 5 through 7 a Proximity of Plume to Nearest Receptor(s) Based on the receptor survey conducted in200l, there were three (3) confirmed drinking water supply wells and six (6) inactive supply wells located within 1,000 feet of the source area. The closest drinking water supply well (WSV/-1) is located approximately 450 feet south (hydraulically upgradient) of the site. No surface water bodies were observed in the field or on the topographic map within 500-feet of the source area. R"f", to Figure R"fe, to Table: Figure 3 Table 1 a 1.2.6 Other Field Data Collected:. No additional held data was collected Predictive Rate of Contaminant Transporl: The contaminant plume has been fairly stable or immobile over the past several years, and in general reducing in concentration. R"f", to Table(s)Tables 2 and3 Texaco Food Mart #2 Lexington Davidson County, North Carolina lncident#:22332 Monitoring Reporl June 30, 201 7 Page 4 2.0 CONCLUSIONS o Free product \üas not detected in site wells during this reporting period. o Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compounds \ryere detected in concentrations above 2L Standards in monitoring wells MW-1 through MV/-4 and T-1.o Dissolved phase concentrations of benzene,l,2-DCA, and EDB were above the NCDEQ GCLs in MW-2.. Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compound concentrations increased in monitoring wells MW-l, MW-2, MV/-3, MW-4, and T-1 since March20l6.o MW-5 continues to show non-detect levels of contamination.o In 2007, three (3) privately owned drinking water supply wells were identified within a 1,000-foot radius of the source area with the nearest confirmed drinking water supply well approximately 450 feet hydraulically upgradient from the source area.o Based on a conversation with Michael Rogers of the NCDEQ on November 76,2010, since WSV/-I is approximately 450 feet upgradient of the site and the property owner would not allow Shield oTNCDEQ to sample their supplywell, the Texaco Food Mart #2 site would likely be reduced to low risk if soil excavation was completed to remove as much soil as feasibly possible in the area of SB-8 and if MV/-2 groundwater concentrations were below GCLs.o Soil excavation around boring SB-8 was conducted on February 28, 2012 via over drilling with 14-inch outside diameter hollow stem augers around the boring. Details of the excavation were previously submitted to the NCDEQ in the Monitoring Report dated October 23,2012. 3.0 RECOMMENDATIONS It is recommended that bi-weekly air sparging be conducted to reduce the groundwater concentrations to below GCLs, with NCDEQ and Trust Fund approval. Shield also recommends that Mobile Multi-Phase Extraction (MMPE) events be conducted at the site in order to expedite cleanup. Shield recommends conducting semi- annual MMPE events, beginning in October 2017, along with follow-up sampling events in order to monitor the effectiveness of the MMPE events. Once MW-2 is below the GCLs, Shield will request a "no further action" determination from the NCDEQ. a a a Texaco Food Maft #2 Lexington Davidson County, North Carolina Incident#:22332 Monitoring Report June 30,2017 Page 5 4.0 LIMITATIONS Shield has performed environmental services at the subject site on behalf of Techno LLC for Holding Brothers, Inc.
