Huntersville, NC o Current Groundwater Analytical Data: The following monitoring wells and other points were sampled during this reporting period. On March 21,2016 groundwater samples were collected from monitoring wells MW-l through MW-5 and T-1. One or more concentrations of analytes including benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, total xylenes, methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), naphthalene, isopropylbenzene, n-propylbenzene,l,2-dichloroethane (1 ,2-DCA), ethylene dibromide (EDB), 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene were detected at concentrations above the l5A NCAC 2L Groundwater Standards (2L Standards) in wells including MW-I, MW-2, M'W-3, MW-4, and T-l Concentrations of anal¡es including benzene, 1,2-DCA, and EDB were detected at concentrations above the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), formerly known as theNorth Carolina Department of Environment andNatural Resources (NCDENR) gross contaminant levels (GCLs) in M'W-2. Refer to the following Table and Appendix for current groundwater analytical data Rrfu to Table: Table 3 Refer to Appendix.' Appendix A Historical Groundwater Anal¡ical Data: Total dissolved phase petroleum concentrations in monitoring well MV/-2 have increased in comparison to May 2015 data. Table 3 o Dissolved Phase Plume Size and Location: The on-site dissolved phase plume is irregularly shaped and has an approximate length of 120 feet and width of85 feet based on the benzene concentrations above 2L Standards. The dissolved phase plume that is above the NCDEQ GCLs is approximately 20 feet by l0 (Figure 5). The plume maps for constituents that are above the GCLs are shown on the following figures. Refe, to Figure(s).' Figures 5 through 7 Proximity of Plume to Nearest Receptor(s):a Based on the receptor survey conducted in 2001, there were three (3) confirmed drinking water supply wells and six (6) inactive supply wells located within 1,000 feet of the source area. The closest drinking water supply well ('WSW-1) is located approximately 450 feet south (hydraulically upgradient) of the site. No surface water bodies were observed in the field or on the topographic map within 500-feet of the source area. Rrfu to Figure Refer to Table: Figure 3 Table I a 1.2.6 Other Field Data Collected:o No additional field data was collected. Predictive Rate of Contaminant Transport: The contaminant plume has been fairly stable or immobile over the past several years, and in general reducing in concentration. Refer to Toble(s)Tables 2 and3 Texaco Food Malt #2 Lexington Davidson County, North Carolina Incidenf#:22332 Monitoring Report April28,20l6 Page 4 2.0 CONCLUSIONS o Free product was not detected in site wells during this reporting period. o Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compounds were detected in concentrations above 2L Standards in monitoring wells MV/-l through MV/-4 and T-1. o Dissolved phase concentrations of benzene, 1,2-DCA, and EDB were above the NCDEQ GCLs in MV/-2. o Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compound concentrations decreased in monitoring wells MW-I, MV/-3, and T-l since May 2015. Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compound concentrations have increased in monitoring wells MV/-2 and MV/-4 since May 2015. o MW-5 continues to show non-detect levels of contamination.o In 2007, three (3) privately owned drinking water supply wells were identified within a 1,000-foot radius of the source area with the nearest confirmed drinking water supply well approximately 450 feet hydraulically upgradient from the source area.o Based on a conversation with Michael Rogers of the NCDENR on November 16, 2010, since WS'W-1 is approximately 450 feet updradient of the site and the property owner would not allow Shield or NCDENR to sample their supply well, the Texaco Food Mart #2 site would likely be reduced to low risk if soil excavation was completed to remove as much soil as feasibly possible and if MV/-2 groundwater concentrations were below GCLs. o Soil excavation around boring SB-8 was conducted on February 28, 2012 via over drilling with l4-inch outside diameter hollow stem augers around the boring. Details of the excavation were previously submitted to the NCDENR in the Monitoring Report dated October 23,2012. 3.0 RECOMMENDATIONS It is recommended that bi-weekly air sparging be conducted to reduce the groundwater concentrations to below GCLs, with NCDEQ and Trust Fund approval. It is requested that the NCDEQ consider a Mobile Multi-Phase Extraction (MMPE) event at the site to expedite cleanup. Once M'W-2 is belowthe GCLs we will request a "no further action" determination from the NCDEQ. o a Texaco Food Mart #2 Lexington Davidson County, Nofth Carolina lncident#:22332 Monitoring Reporl April28,2016 Page 5 4.0 LIMITATIONS Shield has performed environmental services at the subject site on behalf of Techno LLC for Holding Brothers, Inc.
