Sampled Points and Analytical Methods: (l) Pre-Approval Task Authorizqtion TA-22332-l 4 o Laboratory Used: Pace Analytical Services Inc. Huntersville, NC o Current Groundwater Analytical Data: The following monitoring wells and other points were sampled during this reporting period. During this monitoring period, Shield conducted bi-weekly air-sparging events in air sparge wells AS-l and AS-4 using a portable air-sparging unit to facilitate reduction of dissolved phase concentrations in MW-2. Air sparging was conducted on AS-l for approximately 6 hours a day on February 23, March 10, March 24,March 31, April 16, and May 5,2015. Air sparging could not safely be conducted in MW-2 during the air sparging visits because those events were conducted during business hours and MV/-2 is in a high traffic area neaÍ the dispenser island. On May 20,2015 groundwater samples were collected from monitoring wells M'W-l through MW-5 and T-1. One or more concentrations of analytes including benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, total xylenes, methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), naphthalene, isopropylbenzene, n-propylbenzene,l,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), ethylene dibromide (EDB), 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene were detected at concentrations above the 154 NCAC 2L Groundwater Standards (2L Standards) in wells including MV/-1, MVy'-2, MW-3, M'W-4, and T-1. Concentrations of analytes including benzene, 1,2-DCA, and EDB were detected at concentrations above the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources OICDENR) gross contaminant levels (GCLs) in MW-2. Appendix A Historical Groundwater Analytical Data: Total dissolved phase petroleum constituent compounds concentrations in monitoring well MW-2 have decreased in comparison to July 2014 data. Refer to the following table(s) for historical groundwater analyti cal data. Refer to Table(s).' Table 3 o Dissolved Phase Plume Size and Location: The on-site dissolved phase plume is irregularly shaped and has an approximate length of I 05 feet and width of I 20 feet based on the benzene concentrations above 2L Standards. The dissolved phase plume that is above the NCDENR GCLs is approximately 25 feet by 20 (Figure 5). The plume for constituents that are above the GCLs is located as shown on the following figures. Refer to Figure(s).' Figures 5 through 7 Proximity of Plume to Nearest Receptor(s)a Based on the receptor survey conducted in 2001, there were three (3) confirmed drinking water supply wells and six (6) inactive supply wells located within 1,000 feet of the source area. The closest drinking water supply well (WSV/-l) is located approximately 450 feet south (hydraulically upgradient) of the site. No surface water bodies were observed in the field or on the topographic map within 5O0-feet of the source area. Refer to Figure Refe, to Table: Figure 3 Table 1 o 1.2.6 Other Field Data Collected:o No additional field data was collected. Predictive Rate of Contaminant Transport: The contaminant plume has been fairly stable or immobile over the past several years, and reducing in concentration. Refu to Table(s)Tables 2 and3 Texaco Food Mart #2 Lexington Davidson County, North Carolina lncident#:22332 Monitoring Report June 25, 201 5 Page 4 2,0 CONCLUSIONS o During this reporting period, air sparging was conducted on AS-1 and AS-4 for approximately 6 hours per day on February 23,March 10, March 24,March 3 I , April I 6, and May 5,2015. o Free product was not detected in site wells during this reporting period, ¡ Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compounds were detected in concentrations above 2L Standards in monitoring wells MW-l through MV/-4 and T-l. . Dissolved phase concentrations of benzene, 1,2-DCA, and EDB were above the NCDENR GCLs in MW-2. o Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compound concentrations decreased in monitoring wells MV/-2, MVy'-3, and T-l since July 2014. Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compound concentrations slightly increased in monitoring wells MW-l and MW-4 since July 2014. The plume seems to be reducing in concentration.o In 2001, three (3) privately owned drinking water supply wells were identified within a 1,000-foot radius of the source area with the nearest confirmed drinking water supply well approximately 450 feet hydraulically upgradient from the source area, o Based on a conversation with Michael Rogers of the NCDENR on November 16, 2010, since'WSV/-1 is approximately 450 feet updradient of the site and the property owner would not allow Shield or NCDENR to sample their supply well, the Texaco Food Mart #2 site would likely be reduced to low risk if soil excavation was completed to remove as much soil as feasibly possible and if MW-2 groundwater concentrations were below GCLs.o Soil excavation around boring SB-8 was conducted on February 28, 2012 via over drilling with l4-inch outside diameter hollow stem augers around the boring. Details of the excavation were previously submitted to the NCDENR in the Monitoring Report dated October 23,2012. 3.0 RECOMMENDATIONS It is recommended that bi-weekly air sparging be conducted to reduce the groundwater concentrations to below GCLs, with NCDENR and Trust Fund approval. It is requested that the NCDENR consider a Mobile Multi-Phase Extraction (MMPE) event at the site to expedite cleanup. Once MW-2 is below the GCLs we will request a "no further action" determination from the NCDENR. a a a Texaco Food Maft #2 Lexington Davidson County, North Carolina lncident#:22332 Monitoring Report June 25, 20 I 5 Page 5 4,0 LIMITATIONS Shield has performed environmental services at the subject site on behalf of Techno LLC for Holding Brothers, Inc.
