Huntersville, NC o Current Groundwater Analytical Data: The following monitoring wells and other points were sampled during this reporting period. During this monitoring period, Shield conducted bi-weekly air-sparging events in air sparge wells A,S-1 and AS-4 using a portable air-sparging unit to facilitate reduction of dissolved phase concentrations in MW-2. Air sparging was conducted on AS-1 for approximately 6 hours a day on April 4, April 14, April 30, }y'ray l2,June 2, and June 16, 2014. Air sparging could not safely be conducted in MW-2 during the air sparging visits because those events were conducted during business hours and MW-2 is in a high traffic area near the dispenser island. On July ll,2014 groundwater samples were collected from monitoring wells MW-l through MV/-5 and T-1. One or more concentrations of analytes including benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, total xylenes, MTBE, naphthalene, isopropylbenzene, n- propylbenzene, 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), ethylene dibromide (EDB), 1,2,4' trimethylbenzene, and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene were detected at concentrations above the l5ANCAC 2L Groundwater Standards (2L Standards) inwells includingMW-I, MW-2, MW-3 , MV/-4, and T- I . Concentrations of benzene , I ,2-DCA, and EDB were detected at concentrations above the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) gross contaminant levels (GCLs) in MV/-2. Refer to the following Table and Appendix for cunent groundwater anal¡ical data. Refer to Table: Table 3 Sampled Points and Analytical Methods for this Reporting Period Based on CAP and Pre-Approval Task Authorization Sampling Requirements Type Points Sampled during this Reporting Period Analytical Methods Monitoring Wells (6¡ r" (M\M-l through MW-5 and T-1) a EPA Method 62008 Texaco Food Mart #2 Lexington, Davidson County, North Carolina lncident#:22332 Monitoring Report August 26,2014 Page 3 a O Refer to Appendixj Appendix A Historical Groundwater Analytical Data: Total dissolved phase petroleum constituent compounds concentrations in monitoring well MW-2 have decreased in comparison to July 2013 data. Refer to the following table(s) for historical groundwater analytical data. Refer to Table(s): Table 3 Dissolved Phase Plume Size and Location The on-site dissolved phase plume is irregularly shaped and has an approximate lenglh of 105 feet and width of 120 feet based on the benzene concentrations àbove 2L Standards. The dissolved phase plume that is above the NCDENR GCLs is approxim ately 25 feet by 20 (Figure 5). The plume for constituents that are above the GCLs is located as shown on the following figures. ReÍer to Figure(s); Figures 5 through 7 Proximity of Plume to Nearest Receptor(s): Based on the receptor survey conducted in 2001, the¡e are three (3) confirmed drinking water supply wells and six (6) inactive supply wells located within 1,000 feet of the source area. The closest drinking water supply well (rWSW-1) is located approximately 450 feet south (hydraulically upgradient) of the site. No surface water bodies were observed in the field or on the topographic map within 500-feet of the source area. Refer to Figure: Refer to Table: Figure 3 Table I o Predictive Rate of Contaminant Transport: The contaminant plume has been fairly stable or immobile over the past several years, if not attenuating. Refer to Table(s)Tables 2 and3 1.2.6 Other Field Data Collected:o No additional field data was collected. Texaco Food Maft #2 Lexington Davidson County, North Carolina lncident#:22332 Monitoring Report August 26,2014 Page 4 2.0 CONCLUSIONS o During this reporting period, air sparging was conducted on AS-l and AS-4 for approximately 6 hours per day on April 4, April 14, April 30, May 12, June 2, and June 16,2014.o Free product was not detected in site wells during this reporting period. o Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compounds were detected in concentrations above 2L Standards in monitoring wells MW-l through MW-4 and T-1. . Dissolved phase concentrations of benzene, 1,2-DCA, and EDB were above the NCDENR GCLs in MW-2. o Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compound concentrations decreased in monitoring well MW-2 since July 2013. Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compound concentrations slightly increased in monitoring wells MW-l, MW-4, and T-l since July 2013. The plume seems to be attenuating.. Three (3) privately owned drinking water supply wells were identified within a 1,000- foot radius of the source area with the nearest confirmed drinking water supply well approximately 450 feet upgradient from the source area. Based on a conversation with Michael Rogers of the NCDENR onNovember 16, z}l},since WSW-I is approximately 450 feet updradient of the site and the property owner would not allow Shield or NCDENR to sample their supply well, the Texaco Food Mart #2 site would likely be reduced to low risk if soil excavation was completed to remove as much soil as feasibly possible and if MW-2 groundwater concentrations were below GCLs. 3.0 RECOMMENDATIONS It is recommended that bi-weekly air sparging be conducted to reduce the groundwater concentrations to below GCLs, with NCDENR and Trust Fund approval. It is requested that the NCDENR consider a Mobile Multi-Phase Extraction (MMPE) at the site to expedite cleanup. Once MW-2 is below the GCLs we will request a "no further action" determination from the NCDENR. a a Texaco Food Maft #2 Lexington Davidson County, North Carolina lncident#:22332 Monitoring Report August 26,2014 Page 5 4.0 LIMITATIONS Shield has performed environmental services at the subject site on behalf of Techno LLC for Holding Brothers, Inc.
