Huntersville, NC • Current Groundwater Analytical Data: On November 19, 2007 groundwater samples were collected from the six monitoring wells. One or more concentrations of benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, total xylenes, MTBE, naphthalene and 1, 2-Dichloroethane ( 1,2-DCA) were detected at concentrations above the 2L Standards in four site monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2, MW-3 and T-1). Refer to the following Table(s) and Appendix for current groundwater analytical data. Refer to Table(s): Table 3 Refer to Appendix: Appendix B • Historical Groundwater Analytical Data: Total dissolved phase petroleum constituent compounds concentrations in monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3 and T-1 have increased in comparison to April 2002 data. Refer to the following table(s) for historical groundwater analytical data. Refer to Table(s): Table 4 ' Texaco Food Mart #2 Lexington, Davidson County, North Carolina Incident#: 22332 • Dissolved Phase Plume Size and Location: Monitoring Report December 21, 2007 Page3 The dissolved phase ethylbenzene plume is the largest contaminant plume greater than the 15A NCAC 2L Groundwater Standards (2L Standards). It is elliptical in size and has an approximate length of 105 feet and width of 50 feet. The isoconcentration maps can be seen in the following Figures. Refer to Figure(s): Figures 5 through 11 • Proximity of Plume to Nearest Receptor(s): There are two (2) confirmed drinking water supply wells and five (5) inactive supply wells located within 1,000 feet of the source area. The closest drinking water supply well is located approximately 450 feet south of the site. No surface water bodies were observed in the field or on the topographic map within 5O0-feet of the source area. Refer to Table: Table 1 • Predictive Rate of Contaminant Transport: The contaminant plume has been fairly immobile over the past several years, except for a northwest/southwest plume migration. Contaminant transport is typically in the same direction as groundwater flow, but with a slower velocity. Refer to the following Table(s) and Figure(s): Refer to Table(s): Refer to Figure(s): 1.2.6 Other Field Data Collected: Tables 2, 3 & 4 Figures 4 through 11 • A well sampling and field measurement log is included in Appendix A. Texaco Food Mart #2 Lexington Davidson County, North Carolina Incident#: 22332 2.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Monitoring Report December 21, 2007 Page4 • Free product was not detected in site wells during this reporting period. The water table depth has decreased by as much as 2 feet. • Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compounds were detected in concentrations above 2L Standards in monitoring wells including MW-1, MW-2, MW-3 and T-1 during this period. Extractable and volatile petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in a concentration above the 2L standards in monitoring well MW-1, MW-2, MW-3 and MW-5. Dissolved phase concentrations of benzene and 1,2-DCA in MW-2 were above the NCDENR Gross Contaminant Levels (GCL). • Dissolved phase petroleum constituent compound concentrations have increased in monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3 and T-1 since the last sampling event in April 2003. • Two (2) privately owned water supply wells were identified within a 1,000-foot radius of the source area with one confirmed drinking water supply well within 450 feet of the source area. • It is recommended that the remedial system installation previously approved by the NCDENR be postponed at this time and instead conduct a month-long mobile multi- phase extraction (MMPE) event be conducted on wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3 and possibly T-1 to reduce and accelerate this site towards closure. • It is further recommended that monitoring wells MW-1,MW-2, MW-3,MW-4, MW-5 and T-1 be re-sampled approximately one month after completion of the MMPE event, and the results be presented in a monitoring report to the NCDENR no longer than one month after this sampling event. • Further recommendations will be made based on the results of these recommended activities. ,, Texaco Food Mart #2 Lexington Davidson County, North Carolina Incident#: 22332 3.0 LIMITATIONS Monitoring Report December 21, 2007 Page5 Shield has performed environmental services at the subject site on behalf of Techno LLC for Holding Brothers, Inc. ND -Not Detected at or above adjusted reporting limit. J -Estimated concentration above the adjusted method detection limit and below the adjusted reporting limit. MDL -Adjusted Method Detection Limit. S -Surrogate 1,2-Diphenylhydrazine (8270 listed analyte) decomposes to Azobenzene. Consistent with EPA guidelines, unrounded data are displayed and have been used to calculate % recovery and RPO values. LCS(D) -Laboratory Control Sample (Duplicate) MS(D)-Matrix Spike (Duplicate) DUP -Sample Duplicate RPO -Relative Percent Difference NC -Not Calculable. Pace Analytical is NELAP accredited. Contact your Pace PM for the current list of accredited analytes. ANAL YTE QUALIFIERS D3 LO S4 1g Sample was diluted due to the presence of high levels of non-target analytes or other matrix interference. Analyte recovery in the laboratory control sample (LCS) was outside QC llmits. Surrogate recovery not evaluated against control limits due to sample dilution. Percent Relative Percent Difference (RPD) fall for most of the compounds in the LCS/LCSD. Data was accepted based on acceptable recoveries of the target compounds in the LCS/LCSD and acceptable recoveries of the surrogates in the associated samples.
