Dear l'v1r. Kelly:
TOXIC CHEMICAL
$P£C!AL/$TS
Furtl1er to our discussion last week, I wanted to clarify our intent in proceeding with our Open House this
Thursday, October 2.
As proposed in our March 19 submission, our scope of work for Phase I includes an Open House to present
the ECO LOGIC Process as a potential technology for cleanup of the Landfill, as well as to introduce .some
of the people that may be involved in future work at the Landfill. The Open House fulfills a necessary pai1
of our communications plan proposed in Phase I, in recognizing the importance of community outreach.
1l1e Open House is intended to be a social function, where people can shake hands and introduce themselves,
talk about their work, the general community, their children, and their interests. In our experience we naYe
found that is sues such as trnst, credibility and fairness are as important to communities as technical issues
and data. We do not intend the Open House to be a forum for discussion of regulatory issues or Phase I test
results. The Open House will begin a dialogue with the community -a dialogue the community is eager to
start.
I hope the above has clarified, and perhaps reassured you, of our intent in proceeding with the Open House.
Regardless of the outcome of the testing and review process, we feel that involving the community is an
important and necessary step at this time.
Sincerely,
I I
