The site’s location, vicinity, and layout are provided on the enclosed Figures 1, 2, and 3. Work was pre-approved on 12188-035 and - 035A. This letter report is submitted in lieu of the Corrective Action Design Report as there are outstanding issues to resolve prior to the completion of that report at this time. Terraquest personnel sampled monitoring wells MW5, MW17, MW20, MW24, MW25, MW27, and MW30 as prescribed by the NCDWM-UST. Monitoring wells MW1, MW6, MW18, MW19, MW26, MW29, and RW2 were gauged for free product thickness. The depth to water measurements presented in Table 1 were collected prior to purging the sampled wells and used to create the potentiometric surface map presented as Figure 4. Table 1 also contains measured free product thicknesses. Four wells had product at thicknesses as great as 1.92 feet. Each of the sampled wells was purged of three well volumes prior to sample collection. The disposable purging bailer was used by field personnel donning new, disposable, nitrile gloves to retrieve a sample that was placed into laboratory-prepared containers, labeled, and packed on ice pending shipment to an NC-certified laboratory. Chain of custody documentation was maintained throughout the process. Samples were analyzed by method 6200B. As shown on the enclosed Table 2, Figure 5, and lab analytical report, the analytical results revealed the presence of petroleum-type compounds in all samples. In addition to the gauged free product, lab results indicated Gross Contamination Level violations were reported for Page 2 of 2 Jonesville Amoco B (12188) Letter Report (ePATA 12188-035 groundwater sampling) 3/7/23 Terraquest Environmental Consultants, P.C. 100 East Ruffin Street, Mebane, North Carolina 27302 Telephone (919) 563-9091 ·Facsimile (919) 563-9095 www.terraquestpc.com monitoring well MW20, 2L Standard violations for monitoring wells MW24, MW25, MW27, and MW30. The full analytical report is enclosed. Terraquest recommends corrective actions, including free product recovery, at this release incident. The completion of a Corrective Action Design Report for the CAP Feasibility Study approved dual-phase extraction is currently on hold pending NCDEQ review of air emissions regulations and the necessity of an oxidizer to treat emissions.
