(ATC) has prepared this letter to provide a summary of groundwater sampling activities conducted at the referenced facility (as approved in task authorization TA-52). Groundwater Sampling – Monitoring Wells On April 6, 2022, ATC collected a static water level measurements from monitoring wells MW-6 and MW-11. The depths to water measurements were collected using an electronic oil/water interface probe. Current groundwater elevation data are included in Table 1. A site map depicting the location of the monitoring wells is provided in Figure 1. On April 6, 2022, groundwater samples were collected from monitoring wells MW-6 and MW-11. The groundwater samples were collected into laboratory-approved containers, packed in ice and delivered under chain-of-custody to Waypoint Analytical (Waypoint) of Charlotte, North Carolina for analyses. The groundwater samples were analyzed for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) via EPA Method 6200B including methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) and isopropyl ether (IPE). Select natural attenuation measurements are provided in Table 2. The laboratory analytical results from the April 2022 groundwater sampling event detected dissolved total xylenes and naphthalene concentrations above their established 2L Standards in the groundwater sample collected from monitoring well MW-6. Dissolved target compound concentrations were not detected above established 2L Standards in the groundwater sample collected from monitoring well MW-11. A summary of the recent groundwater analytical data is presented in Table 3. A copy of the laboratory analytical report is included as Appendix A. Groundwater Sampling – Water Supply Well On April 8, 2022, a groundwater sample was collected from an irrigation water supply well located at 106 Wintergreen Road (owned by the Wells family). Mr. Wells has previously stated there are two irrigation wells used on the property. One irrigation well (closest to the source area) does not have an access to sample the groundwater. A second irrigation well is located adjacent to the main residence and provides water to a bib spigot (the location where ATC obtains a groundwater sample). Prior to sample collection, the water was allowed to run for approximately 10 minutes. The water sample was collected into laboratory-approved containers, packed in ice April27,2022 Page 2 of 2 and delivered under chain-of-custody to Waypoint for analyses. The groundwater sample was analyzed for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by Method 62008. Laboratory analytical results of the groundwater sample collected from 106 Wintergreen Road detected dissolved target compound concentrations (benzene, toluene, and ethylbenzene) above laboratory method detection limits but below established 2L Standards. The NCDEQ incident manager was notified of these results via email on April 26, 2022. Cwrent supply well analytical results are provided in Table 3. A copy of the laboratory analytical reporl is included as Appendix A. -o- ATC recommends continued annual groundwater sampling of wells MW-6, MW-ll, and the irrigation well at 106 Wintergreen Road. The next groundwater sampling event will be scheduled for April2023. If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact our office at (919) 871-0999.
