REGAN Secretary MICHAEL SCOTT Director North Carolina Department of| Environmental Quality | Division of Waste Management UST Section Central Office | 1646 Mail Service Center | Raleigh, NC 27699-1646 | (919) 707-8200 June 17, 2019 MEMORANDUM To: Charlotte Jesneck, Branch Head, Inactive Hazardous Sites Branch From: Jeff Welti, Corrective Action Branch, UST Section, Washington, NC Subject: Referral - U.N.X Incorporated Property 200 W. 9th St. Greenville, Pitt Co. NC Incident # 93386 - Rank L25R Please find attached the Report of Contamination for the U.N.X. property in Greenville, Pitt Co. NC. The Underground Storage Tank (UST) Section received the February 18, 2019 report on May 10, 2019. MTBE below 2L, benzene slightly above 2L and other petroleum detections were identified during the investigation. The report notes possible vent pipes at the southern corner of the white roofed building along Ficklen Street (see map), however UNX is reportedly unaware of any USTs on the property and the consultant was not able to confirm tanks using a hand probe. Two monitoring wells located on either side of the possible vent pipes show benzene at 2.2 ppb (TMW-12) and ND for TMW-3. The site is ranked low and in the process of being closed out with a Notice of Residual Petroleum (NRP) for soil and groundwater. Non-petroleum constituents were detected in the groundwater (TMW-8) above 2L Standards.
