Hi Allison,
Since we shut the system down on January 1, 2019, the Benzene levels in well 74GW23 have remained below the
GCL of 5,000 ug/L. Do you agree that we can petition NCDEQ for NFA with a GW LUR, as we discussed
earlier. We plan on including the request in the upcoming PMR.
System Shut Down in January 2019-
* February 2019 = 287 ug/L
* May 2019 = 836 ug/L
* August 2019 = 4,600 ug/L
* November 2019 = 2,760 ug/L

Sounds good in regards to pre-closeout sampling schedule for later this year. We will not need to sample all thewells, just the ones that have shown repeated contamination recently. And we do not need to add MADEPVPH/EPH to the sampling.Thanks!

We have an upcoming sampling event scheduled in February as part of our CAMP program and we are planning tobegin closure sampling at Site 3996, UST Incident #31591. This site's risk classification is Intermediate due to the
presence of free-phase product that was detected initially, however, no free-phase product has been detected at this
site since April 2013.
The benzene concentration in one well, MW74GW23, is the main regulatory driver at this site and was last abovethe Gross Contamination Level for groundwater (GCL) in February 2017 with the latest result being well below thatlevel. See below for a list of the Benzene results for the past three years for this well:
August 2015 = 10,900 ug/LFebruary 2016 = 4,590 ug/LAugust 2016 = 9,310 ug/LFebruary 2017 = 11,200 ug/LAugust 2017 = 3,700 ug/LFebruary 2018 = 4,900 ug/LAugust 2018 = 137 ug/LNovember 13, 2018 = 229 ug/L
The AS system was turned off on January 1, 2019 in order to monitor forrebound of the benzene and begin the closure sampling process. In additionto next month's sampling event, we will include sampling events in May, August & November, 2019, followed by arequest for NFA with a GW LUR if no significant rebound occurs within the year.
In planning the closure sampling events, two questions have been raised by our team:
1. Do we sample every on-site well or only those with hits and perimeter wells around plume?2. Do we need to add "MADEP VPH/EPH" to the sampling (currently sampling for SM 6200B and EPA 610).
Can you provide some guidance? This would help ensure we won't have to mobilize more than necessary and alsoprovide your office with all the required data.
