INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this Periodic Monitoring Report is to present the results of recent monitoring
events performed at petroleum release sites located at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point
(MCAS Cherry Point). Monitoring and reporting is being performed in accordance with the
MCAS Cherry Point UST Closure and Management Program adopted by MCAS Cherry Point
Environmental Affairs Department. A listing of sites for which sampling results are included in
this Periodic Monitoring Report is presented in Table I and locations of these sites are shown
on Figure I and Figure II.
This Periodic Monitoring Report is designed such that all data and information pertaining to
any individual site is contained entirely within one section of the report and each section is
devoted entirely to one site. Therefore, each section serves as a stand-alone monitoring
report for the respective site. Each section begins with an Executive Summary which provides
information about location, monitoring, groundwater hydraulics, free-phase product plumes,
dissolved-phase plumes, potential receptors, and remediation at the site. Each Executive
Summary is supported by several site-specific tables and figures.

10.9 Observations and Comments
10.9.1 Historical: The remedial system at Pit 12 consisted of one recovery well with a
total fluids recovery pump, which was connected to the Site 4075 System “B”
remedial treatment system.
Gauging data from May 2012 through January 2013 revealed no measureable
free-phase product; therefore, the system was shut down on February 8, 2013.
Gauging data from February 2013 through September 2013 indicated the absence
of free-phase product at the subject site. However, gauging results from October
2013 revealed 0.01 feet of free-phase product in recovery well 98RW10. The
gauging data from November 2013 through December 2014 for recovery well
98RW10 did not reveal measureable thickness of free-phase product. In addition,
the sampling results from November 2014 revealed no contaminant
concentrations above any of the established GCLs. Therefore, based on the
gauging and sampling results from the Second Semester 2014 the subject site
was eligible for “No Further Action” with a Groundwater LUR as dissolved-phase
constituents still exceed the 2L Standards.

10.9.2 Current: Based on the above-stated gauging and sampling data, a Site Closure
Report with NFA Request was submitted to NCDEQ on March 31, 2015. On April
28, 2015 the NCDEQ granted NFA Status upon implementation of a NRP with a
Soil and Groundwater LUR. Also, the on-site monitoring wells and recovery well
were abandoned on June 11 and 12, 2015. However, in mid-June 2015 a release
of approximately 250 gallons of JP-5 occurred at the Pit 12 pantograph.
Environmental investigations will be conducted in association with this new
release. Therefore, the NCDEQ stated that the existing Incident Number (for the
2004 release) would remain open and would be utilized for the new release. The
NRP and Soil and Groundwater LUR for the historical release area will be
implemented after the assessment and remediation of the new release area.
