Dear Mr. Powers:
Contained herein is a report summarizing Site Check activities for the above referenced facility.
These activities were conducted pursuant to a NOV issued by Charlie Stangle of the NCDEQ
Permits and Inspections branch.
On March 14, 2023, Henry Nemargut Engineering Services mobilized personnel and drilling
equipment to the site to assess the condition of in-situ soils beneath the premium gasoline and
diesel spill buckets. Due to the presence of pea gravel in the UST basin to a depth of
approximately 13’-14’, samples were obtained from auger borings initiated from the edge of the
UST basin. The angled borings were advanced to allow collection of a soil sample beneath the
pea gravel backfill at a depth of approximately 1’ beneath the pea gravel bed (approximately 15’
below ground surface). The sample obtained from the premium gasoline spill bucket area was
labeled PSB, and the sample beneath the diesel spill bucket was labeled DSB. Both soil samples
were containerized for submittal to RedLab, LLC for UVF analyses as allowed by the NCDEQ
for gasoline/diesel site check investigations. The soil samples were obtained as specified in the
collection, preservation, and handling section of the specific method. Each container was labeled
with sample location, analyses to be performed, time, date, and the sampler's name. They were
then placed in a cooler and chilled with ice to approximately 4oC in preparation for
transportation to the analytical laboratory utilizing EPA approved chain of custody procedures.
Laboratory analytical results for soil samples PSB and DSB indicated TPH-GRO/DRO levels
below current NCDEQ action levels for these compound groups. A copy of the laboratory
analytical report and the chain of custody record for the soil samples collected from this site are
contained in Appendix A.
Based on the results from the laboratory soil analyses, Henry Nemargut Engineering Services
recommends no further action in response to the site check conducted at the premium gasoline
and diesel spill buckets at this site.
Mr. Powers, please contact me at (336) 316-0452 if you have questions regarding this report.
Sincerely,
Henry Nemargut, P.E.
