Ground Water Monitoring Report Prepared on: September 8, 2020 New Dixie Mart #226 Project Manager: William Regenthal, PG GRI Project No. 4841 ii EXECUTIVE SUMMARY New Dixie Mart #226 is located at 4917 Raleigh Road Parkway West in Wilson, Wilson County, North Carolina. The site is currently owned by New Dixie Oil Corporation and is currently occupied by a used car dealership. The adjoining properties are commercial. Two 12,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs), associated dispensers and product piping were removed from the site on June 26, 2018. The removed USTs were located in one basin in the rear of the former store. A release was confirmed upon on-site screening of soil removed during the UST closure activities. The site risk classification is currently ranked as high risk due to two potable water supply wells being located within 1,000-foot radius of the site. On August 13, 2020, eight monitoring wells and two telescoping wells were gauged, purged and/or sampled per NCDEQ guidelines. Free product was observed in monitoring wells MW-4 and MW-8. Concentrations of individual BTEX constituents, MTBE, naphthalene, n-propylbenzene, 1,2,4- trimethylbenzene, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene, TAA, C5-C8 aliphatics, C9-C12 aliphatics and/or C9-C10 aromatics that exceeded the Maximum Allowable Concentrations (MACs) as specified in T15A NCAC 2L.0202 were reported in the ground water samples collected from MW-1, MW-3, MW-6, and TW-1. Concentrations of benzene that exceeded the Gross Contamination Level (GCL) were reported in the ground water samples collected from MW-3 and TW-1. Based on this information, the risk classification for the site should remain high risk. It is recommended that a free product evaluation should be conducted at the site. Semi-annual ground water monitoring should be continued. The next sampling event is tentatively scheduled for February 2021. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Prepared by: Geological Resources, Inc. Ground Water Monitoring Report Prepared on: September 8, 2020 New Dixie Mart #226 Project Manager: William Regenthal, PG GRI Project No. 4841 1 1.0 SITE HISTORY AND CHARACTERIZATION Geological Resources, Inc. (GRI) presents the results of the August 2020 ground water sampling event at the New Dixie Mart #226 site; located at 4917 Raleigh Road Parkway West in Wilson, Wilson County, North Carolina (Figure 1). These activities were conducted in accordance with GRI Proposal No. 20-377, which was submitted to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) on August 3, 2020, and was approved as Task Authorization No. 46344-03 on August 4, 2020. State correspondence has been included as Appendix A. The site is currently owned by New Dixie Oil Corporation and is currently operated as a used car dealership. Two 12,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs), associated dispensers and product piping were removed from the site on June 26, 2018. A release was discovered during the June 2018 UST closure activities. UST owner/operator information and UST system information are included as Tables 1 and 2, respectively. The Registered Tank Report is shown below: The site and adjoining properties are commercial. The site contains one building and is primarily capped with concrete and asphalt. The overall topography at the site is relatively flat. No surface water bodies were identified within a 500-foot radius of the site. Thirteen Type II monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-13) and two Type III monitoring well (TW-1 and TW-2) were installed at the site during Limited Site Assessment (LSA) and Comprehensive Site Assessment (CSA) activities. A Site Map showing the locations of the monitoring wells and the structures on-site has been included as Figure 2. On July 26, 2020, GRI personnel conducted a receptor survey at the site. Three water supply wells were identified within a 1,500-foot radius of the site. Two potable wells (WSW-1 and WSW-3) were identified within 1,000 feet of the site. No water supply wells were identified within a 250-foot radius of the source area. No surface water bodies were identified within 500 feet of the source area. Municipal water is available to the site and the surrounding properties. Water supply well information is presented in Table 3. Adjacent property owner information is presented in Table 4. A Site Vicinity Map showing the locations of water supply wells and adjacent properties has been included as Figure 3. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Prepared by: Geological Resources, Inc. Free product was observed in MW-4 and MW-8. Depths to ground water in the Type II monitoring wells ranged from 4.98 to 11.02 feet below the tops of well casings. Ground water elevations in the Type II monitoring wells ranged from 88.58 feet to 94.74 feet. Ground water flow was generally to the northwest with a horizontal gradient of approximately 0.04 feet per foot. The average vertical gradient between paired wells MW-1/TW-1 and MW-1/TW-2 was approximately 0.02 feet per foot in the downward direction. Well construction and gauging information is presented in Table 5. A Water Table Surface Map based on the Type II monitoring wells is included as Figure 4. The assessment was conducted based on the scope of work and level of effort desired by NCDEQ and with resources adequate only for that scope of work. Our findings have been developed in accordance with generally accepted standards of environmental practices in the State of North Carolina, available information, and our professional judgment. No other warranty is expressed or implied. The data that are presented in this report are indicative of conditions that existed at the precise locations sampled and at the time the samples were collected. In addition, the data obtained from samples would be interpreted as being meaningful with respect to parameters indicated in the laboratory report. No additional information can logically be inferred from these data. 7.0 STATEMENTS AND CERTIFICATION 1 Enter the date the monitoring report was due. n/a Will this report be submitted after the established due date?
