Because the property you own or occupy is located within or contiguous to an area containing contamination or within or contiguous to an area where the contamination is expected to migrate, State rules governing groundwater classifications and standards (15A NCAC 2L .0115) require that you be informed. The State Trust Fund Branch of the UST Section, on behalf of the responsible party, Eller and Huffman Oil Company, is providing this public notice. The source area of the contamination is located at 5087 HWY 163, West Jefferson, NC. Please see the attached map showing the location of the source area of the release. The underground storage tanks have been removed, assessment activities have been conducted, and monitor wells have been installed. Sampling from these monitor wells and surrounding water supply wells indicates that the contamination has not impacted area supply wells. Based on the current condition of the site, further action is deemed unnecessary, unless the threat to human health and the environment should increase. If you would like to review the LUST Action Plan, please contact me at 919-733-1319 and a copy will be mailed to you promptly. In addition, the State Trust Fund has other site information on file that is available for public review. You may make copies of this information for a small fee. Any written comments concerning this request should be submitted to me at the following address within thirty (30) days of the date that this letter was issued: DWM UST Section 1637 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1637 Notice of LUST Action Plan 163 Service and Grocery Highway 163 and Nettle Knob Road West Jefferson, NC Incident #3320 DIVISION OF WASTE MANAGEMENT/UST SECTION 1637 MAIL SERVICE CENTER, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA 27699-1637 PHONE: 919-733-8486 \ FAX: 919-733-9413 INTERNET: http://www.wastenot.enr.state.nc.us AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYER - 50% RECYCLED/10% POST-CONSUMER PAPER All comments received within this time frame will be considered.
